Honda CBX 1000 Restoration Guide

Honda CBX 1000 Restoration Guide - 2nd Edition

There is a new version of my book for sale which is available in two formats (contents of both are identical):

  • “Coffee Table” hardback format

  • “Workshop” spiral bound format

This “2nd Edition” is very similar to the original book, the main changes being:

  • Page count has increased from 300 pages to 380.

  • Formatting changes to make navigation easier.

  • Extra chapters added to cover:

    • Restoring mirrors

    • Rivetting mudgards and chainguards

    • Specs and dimensions

    • Details on my final restoration (built using NOS parts)

  • Lots of small changes throughout adding / clarifying detail

  • I would say 70-80% of the contents are the same as the original book

Purchasing the book

The book is being sold by “The Supersport Shed” in the UK. They are listed on their website for immediate purchase.

These are substantial books – the spiral version is 1.5kg and the hardback 2.5kg. As a result, international postage will be relatively high – there is nothing we can do about this.

If you want a copy of the book – follow the links below.

Fastener List

There is a “Fastener List” which accompanies the guide – this details all the zinc plated fasteners on a CBX, and can be used to verify your bike has the correct fasteners, and can be used to ensure they are zinc plated as per the factory originals.

A link to the fastener list can be found below.

More details on the book:

I have been restoring classic bikes for 25 years and been specialising in CBXs for over 10 years. I have written down my experiences with the CBX which hopefully other owners of the CBX will find useful.

Everyone interested in a CBX will get something from the book:

  • A buyers guide for prospective owners

  • How to restore them back to "as new" condition

  • How to recommission a bike that has been standing a while

  • Advice on general maintenance and common issues

  • Detailed specification details - is the bike really "as it left the factory" or has it been messed with?

It covers the 1979 / Z model in detail and covers the 1980 / A model to a large extent (the differences are highlighted). Most of the content is still relevant to the prolink models, but it does not include any prolink specific material.

The guide is 380 pages and is intended to augment the Honda Factory Shop Manual. It includes topics not included in the FSM, and highlights things that are covered by it that you need to look out for
